<p>The start of a new NFL season means new traditions.</p>
<p>Welcome to the "best broadcasting moments of the week" column – we're still workshopping the best name for this, but you get the point. Dozens of calls by NFL broadcasters from Thursday to Sunday (sorry Joe Buck and Troy Aikman, but "Monday Night Football" doesn't fit our publishing schedule) are worthy of inclusion. Only three will make the cut (usually), and I'll throw in a couple more categories as I deem necessary.</p>
<p>What did I miss? Consider this my formal solicitation to send anything you, dear reader and consumer, may deem worthy of future inclusion into the weekly post. I'm not that difficult to find. Let me hear it, the same way we all heard these calls during Week 1 of the 2025 NFL season.</p>
<p>Ian Eagle calls game-winning 60-yard FG … and is geographically correct</p>
<p>NFL kickers have never displayed more proficiency from longer distances but Eagle supplied Pittsburgh Steelers kicker Chris Boswell's game-winning 60-yard field goal with ample excitement. He and new partner J.J. Watt seemed to click during the Steelers' 34-32 victory over the Jets, and the play-by-play announcer made the (very) necessary distinction between New Jersey and New York. Scenes straight out of Timothée Chalamet's Bob Dylan biopic.</p>

<p>There is something about a "sweeps the leg" that caresses the soul.</p>

<p>NBC's Mike Tirico on Matt Prater's game-winning FG as time expired</p>
<p>What a comeback by the Buffalo Bills on "Sunday Night Football." As usual, play-by-play announcer Mike Tirico rose to the occasion.</p>
<p>"32 yards … Prater … made it!"</p>
<p>Simplicity wins, and Tirico's tone always finds the proper level. And the context never feels out of place.</p>

<p>Joe Davis calls improbable San Francisco 49ers TD</p>
<p>Shades of "The Catch," except Week 1 has slightly different ramifications compared to the NFC championship game. Niners tight end Jake Tonges came down with the improbable catch after quarterback Brock Purdy kept the play alive. Joe Davis, who will take on Major League Baseball postseason duties next month, delivered in one of the most clutch moments of Week 1.</p>

<p>We used to be a proper country. Seven hours of commercial-free football. Andrew Siciliano, er, Scott Hanson on the call. Now we have commercials. Because you didn't have enough exposure to Wingstop or DraftKings in your life already. As I wrote regarding the YouTube stream, this is just the beginning…</p>
<p>Honorable Mention: Rich Eisen on Harrison Butker</p>
<p>We covered this in detail Friday night, and upon further review this was a line Eisen had likely rehearsed – but if it was indeed done on the fly then all the credit here.</p>
