As fans deal with the emotional conclusion of the Downton Abbey franchise with the new movie, Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale, a new phase of life recently began for two of the cast members, Laura Carmichael and Michael C. Fox, as they confirmed that they officially got married.

The two actors, who met on the set of the hit show but kept their romance private, teased their nuptials in the special called Downton Abbey Celebrates The Grand Finale on NBC.

"I owe a lot to this show," began Fox, who plays the character Andrew Parker. "I think so much of my life has been shaped around this show." As he said this, Carmichael was nearby, smiling at her partner.

Another cast member, Lesley Nicol, who plays the family cook Mrs. Patmore, emphasized how much the show affected the couple's lives, asking, "What if someone said you're actually going to find your wife and have a child? Life-changing stuff."

Both Fox and Carmichael replied, "I know," with the former adding, "It's incredible."

After the program aired, Today reached out to the couple's representatives, who confirmed that the two are indeed married, despite neither Carmichael nor Fox even teasing the major life event outside of the special.

Who Do Carmichael and Fox Play in 'Downton Abbey'?

While Carmichael has been a part of the Downton Abbey franchise since the beginning, her husband didn't join the show until Season 5. Fox's character Parker is a footman initially hired for a temporary job during the week of the wedding between Lady Rose, played by Lily James, and Atticus Aldridge, played by Matt Barber.

After the wedding, Parker is soon hired again, joining the staff of the house as a second footman. Parker ends up married to assistant cook Daisy, played by Sophie McShera.

Meanwhile, Carmichael plays Lady Edith, one of the daughters of Hugh Bonneville's character, Robert Crawley. She eventually marries Herbert Pelham (Harry Hadden-Paton), the 7th Marquess of Hexham, in the series finale, becoming the Marchioness of Hexham.

Through the wedding, Pelham becomes Edith's older daughter Marigold's stepfather, while the couple gives birth to a son named Peter later on.

The couple's new movie, Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale, hits theaters on Sept. 12.
