<p>With Amazon nixing its program that allowed members to share free shipping benefits, some customers may be wondering what steps to take next.</p>

<p>Amazon announced it was replacing its Prime Invitee Program with Amazon Family, a move that tightens restrictions on how − and with whom − Prime accounts are shared.</p>

<p>The soon-to-be defunct Prime Invitee Program accepted new members between 2009 and 2015, allowing them to share shipping benefits with anyone, regardless of their home address.</p>

<p>Starting Oct. 1, Amazon Prime customers wanting to share shipping benefits and added digital perks will have to do so using the Amazon Family program, an Amazon spokesperson confirmed to USA TODAY this week. While the move caps shipping benefits to friends or family members in the same home, Amazon Family does offer other shareable perks to customers.</p>

<p>Here's the latest on what's included.</p>

<p>With Amazon Family, Prime members can share benefits with one other adult, up to four teens added before April 7, 2025 and up to four children. Everyone must live in the same home, Amazon said online.</p>

<p>An Amazon spokesperson confirmed to USA TODAY the switch from the Prime Invitee Program to Amazon Family will allow users to share:</p>

<p>Free shipping</p>

<p>Exclusive deals and shopping events like Prime Day</p>

<p>Prime Video content (including movies, series, and live sports; Amazon Family accounts can stream up to three different videos on Prime Video at the same time)</p>

<p>Amazon Music</p>

<p>Free Grubhub+ membership</p>

<p>Fuel savings at more than 7,500 locations of BP, Amoco, and AMPM.</p>

<p>According to Amazon's website, the following users cannot share Prime benefits:</p>

<p>Free trial members</p>

<p>Student and young adult Prime members (ages 18-22)</p>

<p>Prime Video-only members</p>

<p>Prime members who want to share benefits with others must ensure they:</p>

<p>Have linked accounts through Amazon Family</p>

<p>Have the same primary residential address</p>

<p>Share payment methods with each other for household verification</p>

<p>Have a Buy Now U.S. billing address for Prime Video sharing</p>

<p>Share payment methods (family members can use their own payment methods to make purchases)</p>

<p>Why can't I join?</p>

<p>According to Amazon, those having trouble joining an Amazon Family may be running into the following issues:</p>

<p>The Amazon Family already has the maximum number of members: two adults, up to four teens (added before April 7, 2025), and four children.</p>

<p>The user has recently left an Amazon Family. Amazon said family members can leave and re-join an Amazon Family anytime, but they have to wait 12 months before joining a different Amazon Family.</p>

<p>The user doesn't live in the same household as the person who invited them to share benefits.</p>

<p>How to sign up for Amazon Family</p>

<p>In order to sign up for Amazon Family, customers can:</p>

<p>Go to Amazon Family</p>

<p>Select "Manage Your Amazon Family"</p>

<p>Send invitations to Amazon Family members (including adults and children)</p>

<p>Choose which benefits and digital content to share through the Family Library</p>
