<p>Chappell Roan was not at the 2025 MTV Video Music Awards.</p>
<p>She was nominated in the "Song of the Summer" category.</p>
<p>Last year, she won the title of Best New Artist.</p>
<p>Chappell Roan chose to skip the 2025 MTV Video Music Awards and take the night off. She'll be performing in New York City later this month.</p>
<p>Roan was nominated this year for Song of the Summer category for her single "The Subway." This is her second nomination in the category. In 2024, she won the award for Best New Artist, but additionally snagged nominations in MTV Push Performance and Trending Video. She also made a huge splash on stage playing her hit song "Good Luck, Babe!" while dressed in a dramatic ode to Joan of Arc.</p>

<p>In fact, her two other looks from the evening were all about silver, chainmail, and medieval details. She arrived in a transparent maxi dress from Y/Project and a sea foam green velvet cloak, carrying a literal sword.</p>

<p>When accepting her award, Roan said, "I dedicate this to all the drag artists who inspire me, who inspire me, and I dedicate this to queer and trans people that fuel pop, to the gays who dedicate my songs to someone they love or hate."</p>
<p>She continued, "And thank you to the people who are fans, who listen to me, who hear me when I share my joy and my fears. Thank you for listening. And for all the queer kids in the Midwest watching right now, I see you, I understand you, because I'm one of you, and don't ever let anyone tell you that you can't be exactly who you wanna be, bitch."</p>
<p>It was also the year that Roan notably shouted back at a photographer while on the red carpet, after he reportedly told her to "Shut the fuck up!" Roan turned around and replied, "You shut the fuck up! You, not me."</p>

<p>She later told Entertainment Tonight, "[The red carpet] is quite overwhelming and quite scary. I think for someone who gets a lot of anxiety around people yelling at you, the carpet is horrifying. And I need to—I yelled back. I yelled back! You don't get to yell at me like that."</p>
