<p>London — The Greater Manchester Police said at least four people were wounded and a suspect shot outside a synagogue on Thursday in what appeared to be a vehicle and stabbing attack. The police told CBS News they were "dealing with a stabbing that's happened outside a synagogue on the street," in the northern U.K. city.</p>
<p>The incident comes as Jews mark the holiday of Yom Kippur.</p>
<p>The Manchester Evening News, a local newspaper, and CBS News' partner network BBC News reported that police had said the suspect did not gain access to the building and was shot at the scene by armed officers. It said specialist counterterrorism officers were also on the scene.</p>
<p>"It's a serious incident I have to say," Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham told the BBC. "I would say to people to avoid the area, because it's a serious incident, but at the same time I can give some reassurance that the immediate danger appears to be over."</p>
