<p>Prime Video announced on Oct. 10 that Countdown would not be renewed for a second season</p>
<p>Jensen Ackles, who plays Detective Mark Meachum in the crime thriller, reacted to the sudden news by thanking the cast and crew</p>
<p>"Sometimes you can set out to do your best and check all those boxes and ultimately it's out of your hands," the Supernatural alum said</p>

<p>After Prime Video announced it would not be renewing Countdown for a second season, Ackles, 47, shared his reaction to the unexpected news on social media.</p>
<p>"It's a bummer because I had such an amazing time making that show," he said in an Oct. 11 Instagram video. "Had an absolute blast with the cast and the crew."</p>
<p>The Supernatural alum went on to thank creator Derek Haas and the show's writers for "making the show and writing those characters," as well as Amazon for "giving us the opportunity."</p>

<p>The crime thriller, which followed Ackles' Meachum as he investigated the murder of an officer with the Department of Homeland Security, debuted its first season in June. According to Deadline, the show continues to chart on Prime Video's U.S. Top 10 over a month after its finale aired in September.</p>
<p>"Sometimes you can set out to do your best and check all those boxes and ultimately it's out of your hands," Ackles continued. "That's the way it goes in this industry."</p>
<p>While honoring the end of each of the show's characters — including those played by Eric Dane, Jessica Camacho, Uli Latukefu, Elliot Knight, and Violett Beane — the actor added, "I'm thankful for the experience, I really am. And we'll see you down the road on something else I guess."</p>
<p>In the comments, Ackles' former Supernatural costar, Jared Padelecki, was among the many friends and collaborators who showed their support. "Their loss brother. You were amazing in it. Which is no surprise to ANYBODY," Padalecki, 43, wrote. "I'll still be re-watching. And I can't wait to see what you do next."</p>

<p>Before the show premiered, Ackles teased that stepping into Meachum's shoes would feel quite "familiar" to Supernatural fans.</p>

<p>"It's not like I'm going so opposite spectrum with this character. He's going to be a familiar taste, which is good. I like doing that," he told Entertainment Weekly in May. "I mean, I played Dean for 15 years. I loved playing that kind of a character. And I think this guy is in the vein of that, just with a completely different set of circumstances."</p>
<p>Beyond getting to work on a project that felt like home, he also gushed about collaborating with Dane, 52, amid his ALS diagnosis.</p>

<p>"He has such a command of scenes and the set just in his stillness and how just his quiet leadership, and it's something that he brings from off set too," Ackles told PEOPLE in June. "I mean, he does that when the cameras aren't rolling."</p>
<p>He continued, "There's just a quiet leadership to him that I truly learned from. So to get to mix it up with them on screen, I had to bring it."</p>
