<p>Sarah Jessica Parker revealed the books she's currently reading while attending an event in New York on Sept. 29</p>
<p>The Sex and the City star, 60, said there are multiple books she hasn't read before on the syllabus at her daughters' high school</p>
<p>"It's really amazing," she said of the syllabus. "My daughters are juniors in high school"</p>
<p>Sarah Jessica Parker is catching up on books that she wishes she had read sooner!</p>
<p>The Sex and the City star, 60, attended the Sarah Jessica Parker and Victoria Redel in Conversation with Adam Moss: I Am You event at Kaye Playhouse at Hunter College in New York on Sept. 29. While speaking to magazine editor Moss, she revealed that her bookshelf is being inspired by her daughters' high school syllabus.</p>
<p>Parker shares three children — son James Wilkie, 22, and twin daughters Tabitha Hodge and Marion Loretta Elwell, 16 — with her husband Matthew Broderick.</p>
<p>"Well, I'm sneaking a book now," Parker said. "I'm following my daughters' syllabus. It's really amazing. My daughters are juniors in high school."</p>

<p>The actress revealed that the school's syllabus includes several non-fiction books, ranging from politics in Russia to those penned by early English authors. Without naming which of her daughters is studying literature, Parker listed the books that have grabbed her attention the most.</p>
<p>"She is studying Putin and she's also reading early English writers," Parker said of one of her daughters. "So she's reading Persuasion [by Jane Austen].</p>
<p>"I've never read Persuasion, which I can't believe," she continued. "And I've never read the Philip Short Putin biography, so that's what I'm reading."</p>
<p>The avid reader teamed up with indie publisher Zando to launch SJP Lit in March 2022. Parker revealed that she loves "great" non-fiction despite not being in the process of publishing any titles at the moment.</p>
<p>"I love great nonfiction," she said, before adding, "And this Putin book is really something. And Motherland, I've snuck that in too, but I did read it. It's a new Julia Ioffe book about Russia."</p>

<p>Elsewhere in the event, Parker emphasized that writers shouldn't focus on likability when creating characters. She shared a desire to be "taken hostage" by a novel's captivating characters, while being given a glimpse into what has influenced its author.</p>
<p>She said "greedy" readers want a book to give them the experience of having their breath taken away or having "done something special."</p>
<p>"I don't want anybody writing for film or television or for the movies or whatever, however we identify entertainment, to ever worry about being sympathetic, like a character has to be likable or sympathetic," Parker said.</p>
<p>"I can't tell you how many times I've been asked about a character I played for so many years, if she was sympathetic or likable," she added. "And I was like, 'God, some of the greatest gangsters in cinema... they were murderers, but they were really great characters.' "</p>
