Romy Mars isn't sure why UC Berkeley asked her to give a speech on their campus

The 18-year-old hilariously asked "what's going on?" when she received the email

Romy Mars was left perplexed when UC Berkeley reached out to see if she'd give a speech on campus.

The 18-year-old singer and actress, who is the daughter of filmmaker Sofia Coppola and musician Thomas Mars, shared a video on her TikTok where she hilariously asked why she would be asked to give a speech at the college.

"So UC Berkley just asked me to be a speaker at their college," began Romy, who currently reportedly attends a different institution. "Just to give some kind of backstory, the previous speakers for UC Berkley are the creators of Kahn Academy, PayPal, medical chiefs."

"Why? What's going on? I don't even know what you want me to give advice on. I was born into this. I don't have work ethic," she joked.

The teenager went on to say that she doesn't have any "tips or tricks" to share, and doesn't have any "insight on the business."

"Cause honestly I just sit on my a-- and write songs and, like, post on TikTok. You want me to do a speech at UC Berkley?" asked Romy, who paused for a second. "This isn't sitting right with me."

Although she jokes that she's just sitting in her room and making videos, Romy does have an impressive resumé. She launched her music career in June with her single "A-Lister" and has been appearing on FX's English Teacher in a small role.

However, Romy's recent video isn't the first time she's made waves on the social media platform. Back in 2023, the then 16-year-old made headlines for the relatively unconventional reason she was grounded.

The teenager shared a TikTok in which she told viewers to "make a vodka pasta sauce with me because I'm grounded."

She went on to explain why she was grounded, saying that she "tried to charter a helicopter from New York to Maryland on my dad's credit card because I wanted to have dinner with my camp friend."

After trying to figure out the ingredients for her pasta sauce, she then said the reason she decided to film the TikTok was that she was "already grounded" and her parents' "biggest rule is I'm not allowed to have any public social media accounts."

"Here's why," she shared, holding a Grammy award to the camera with a sarcastic smile. "Because they don't want me to be a nepotism kid, but TikTok is not gonna make me famous, so it doesn't really matter."

Alongside Romy, Coppola and Mars are also parents to daughter Cosima, 15.
