The Golden State Valkyries hosted the Atlanta Dream in Game 1 of the 2026 WNBA Finals on Saturday. The Valkyries won a close game at the Chase Center, taking an early 1-0 series lead in the final WNBA playoff series of the season.
Kaepernick, a longtime WNBA fan, spent his entire NFL career in the Bay Area, playing for the 49ers. He has a lot of fans in San Francisco. One of them decided to wear a special No. 7 Kaepernick jersey sitting near the court for Game 1.
It's pretty rare to see a No. 7 Kaepernick jersey these days, but he clearly has a lot of fans in the WNBA.
Back in 2024, Kaepernick was publicly celebrated during a WNBA playoff series in New York.
"Colin Kaepernick: former NFL quarterback and activist," a caption displayed on the screen read.
"Kaepernick's appearance at the second game of the Las Vegas Aces vs. New York Liberty series was captured on the Barclay's Center LED screen. Audience members cheered as he smiled and waved to the camera," FOX 29 reported.
"Kaepernick became deeply involved in social issues following his controversial decision to kneel during a performance of the Star-Spangled Banner while playing with the San Francisco 49ers in 2016. The move was intended as a protest against police brutality, which inspired other prominent athletes to do the same and drew strong backlash from NFL fans."
Perhaps we'll see the former NFL quarterback turned activist making an appearance at a WNBA Finals game in Golden State or Atlanta before the series is over later this month.
