About Our Ads Advertisement Advertisement Advertisement Marc-Andre Barriault met the media Saturday after his win over Kyle Daukaus at UFC Fight Night 291.
Barriault (18-11 MMA, 7-10 UFC) lit up the Canadian fans when he took out Daukaus (17-6 MMA, 4-6 UFC) with a swarming first-round TKO on the main card at Rogers Place in Edmonton, Alberta. Barriault was hurt early by Daukaus, but turned the tables to pull off what was one of four victories by Canadians on the main card.
Although he's just 2-2 in his past four fights, Barriault has bonuses in all of them. His decision losses to Shara Magomedov and Mical Oleksiejczuk both were Fight of the Night winners. But the $100K he picked up Saturday will be memorable since it featured a comeback win.
"I was not surprised (by his early toughness). We've been working hard for this result. This is just a cherry on top. I feel like I belong in this place right now talking to you guys. I'm just super grateful. We knew that he has a good ground game, for sure, so the game plan was just to stay cool, calm, collected – make sure that I can make him feel my pressure, my presence, but without taking any unnecessary damage. My type of fight, it's always to get my head in the fire. But now I feel like I want to be more patient, and when it's time, I can flip the switch. I think that I showed tonight that I was able to be a better version of myself and get the job done."
"I ain't going nowhere. I want to keep representing Canada. I think I proved something tonight, and you guys are going to see me soon, for sure. I've always been super active, so I want to keep the momentum rolling. Hopefully I can be on the next card in Canada, (UFC 336 in) Toronto next. For the opponent, the UFC always throws me some good names. I think there's good things coming."
