- Who will win at the 2025 Emmy Awards (and who really should)

There's nothing Hollywood loves more than, well, Hollywood.

That's why you'll probably hear "And the Emmy goes to ... 'The Studio'" quite a few times at the 2025 Emmy Awards. Apple TV+'s Hollywood satire, starring Seth Rogen and Catherine O'Hara, garnered a whopping 23 nominations from Emmy voters this year and is expected to walk away with quite a few trophies come television's biggest night on Sunday, Sept. 14 (CBS, 8 ET/5 PT and streaming on Paramount+).

It's one of quite a few heavyweight TV shows, including Apple's "Severance" and Netflix's "Adolescence," ready to claim a slew of wins this year at the Nate Bargatze-hosted awards. But will the very best shows, actors and creators win the top prizes, or will they be stuck saying, "It's an honor just to be nominated"?

The Emmys are meant to recognize the best and brightest of the last year on TV (shows that aired between June 2024 to May 2025 are eligible), but the TV Academy doesn't always get it right.

We cut through all the noise and predictions to lay out exactly who will, and who should, win at this year's 77th Primetime Emmy Awards.

Who will win at the 2025 Emmys?

Adam Scott as Mark S. and Britt Lower as Helly R. in "Severance" Season 2.Best drama series -

"Andor" (Disney+)

"The Diplomat" (Netflix)

"The Last of Us" (HBO)

"Paradise" (Hulu)

"The Pitt" (HBO Max)

"Severance" (Apple TV+)

"Slow Horses" (Apple TV+)

"The White Lotus" (HBO)

Will win: "Severance"

Should win: "The Pitt"

With 27 nominations, more than any other show this year, the sophomore season of Apple TV+'s "Severance" appears to be the voter favorite. The trippy science fiction drama does have a lot going for it: a beloved (and very famous) cast and creative team, high concept plots, and sleek and expensive-looking visuals. However fun the new "Severance" season is, it lacks the depth and wow factor of HBO Max's "The Pitt," a show that so accurately and devastatingly captures the way we live now. Merging the best of classic TV tropes with our new streaming era and keeping hearts pumping hard for 15 nerve-racking episodes, "Pitt" is the unassailable show of the year.

Chase Sui Wonders, Seth Rogen, Ike Barinholtz, Kathryn Hahn and Catherine O'Hara in "The Studio."Best comedy series -

"Abbott Elementary" (ABC)

"The Bear" (FX/Hulu)

"Hacks" (HBO Max)

"Nobody Wants This" (Netflix)

"Only Murders in the Building" (Hulu)

"Shrinking" (Apple TV+)

"The Studio" (Apple TV+)

"What We Do in the Shadows" (FX)

Will win: "The Studio"

Should win: "The Studio"

Irreverent, chaotic and inevitably optimistic about Hollywood's role in the wider world, "Studio" has been a huge hit with Emmy voters and garnering a record number of nominations for a comedy, including quirky nods for best guest actor for both Martin Scorsese and Ron Howard. While perhaps some of the love is overblown, the overall season crafted by the show's producers, including Seth Rogen, was deliriously entertaining.

Noah Wyle as Dr. Robby in "The Pitt."Lead actor, drama series -

Sterling K. Brown, "Paradise" (Hulu)

Gary Oldman, "Slow Horses" (Apple TV+)

Pedro Pascal, "The Last of Us" (HBO)

Adam Scott, "Severance" (Apple TV+)

Noah Wyle, "The Pitt" (HBO Max)

Will win: Noah Wyle

Should win: Noah Wyle

"The Pitt" is exquisitely scripted and shot, and yet the tense medical drama just wouldn't have been the transcendent series it was without Noah Wyle's lead performance as the harried, traumatized and ultimately good-natured Dr. Robby. Just as charming and magnetic as an attending doctor in his 50s in "The Pitt" as he was as a student doctor in his 20s on NBC's classic hospital show "ER," Wyle's performance is nuanced and layered. It's a cherry on top of a legendary career in television, and the actor's peers have taken notice.

Kathy Bates as Matty Matlock in "Matlock."Lead actress, drama series -

Kathy Bates, "Matlock" (CBS)

Sharon Horgan, "Bad Sisters" (Apple TV+)

Britt Lower, "Severance" (Apple TV+)

Bella Ramsey, "The Last of Us" (HBO)

Keri Russell, "The Diplomat" (Netflix)

Will win: Kathy Bates

Should win: Kathy Bates

There has been no greater delight on TV in the past year than Kathy Bates' magnificent turn in CBS' "Matlock" reboot. The actress revels in every episode as a septuagenarian lawyer returning to the workforce at a high-profile New York firm with a Southern accent and a baby boomer sensibility. Bates' Matty Matlock is all smiles on the outside and fire on the inside, a type of character the veteran actress has no problem playing with aplomb.

Seth Rogen as Matt Remick in "The Studio."Lead actor, comedy series -

Adam Brody, "Nobody Wants This" (Netflix)

Seth Rogen, "The Studio" (Apple TV+)

Jason Segel, "Shrinking" (Apple TV+)

Martin Short, "Only Murders in the Building" (Hulu)

Jeremy Allen White, "The Bear" (FX/Hulu)

Will win: Seth Rogen

Should win: Seth Rogen

Rogen didn't just help create "Studio" − the actor best known for his bawdy comedy films leads a star-studded cast with a performance that toes the line between parody and buffoonery without going over the edge. Rogen stretches himself in the series in ways we've never seen him do before. If you feel like you already know what he's going to offer in the role of brand new studio president Matt Remick, you'll be surprised the moment you sit down to watch.

Jean Smart as Deborah Vance in "Hacks" Season 4.Lead actress, comedy series -

Uzo Aduba, "The Residence" (Netflix)

Kristen Bell, "Nobody Wants This" (Netflix)

Quinta Brunson, "Abbott Elementary" (ABC)

Ayo Edebiri, "The Bear" (FX/Hulu)

Jean Smart, "Hacks" (HBO Max)

Will win: Jean Smart

Should win: Jean Smart

Four seasons should net the one-and-only Jean Smart four Emmy Awards. "Hacks" may not have turned in its best work in the fourth season, set amid comedian Deborah Vance's (Smart) new tenure as a late night TV host, but Smart never slacks off in her performance. She has won an Emmy for every season she's stepped into Deb's high heels, and she should have no trouble taking home another statue in 2025.

Owen Cooper as Jamie Miller in "Adolescence."Best limited series -

"Adolescence" (Netflix)

"Black Mirror" (Netflix)

"Dying for Sex" (FX/Hulu)

"Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story" (Netflix)

"The Penguin" (HBO Max)

Will win: "Adolescence"

Should win: "Adolescence"

Nobody expected a little British crime drama about the online "manosphere" and toxic masculinity to become Netflix's second-most watched English language series of all time (behind only "Wednesday"). But that's exactly what happened in the weeks after "Adolescence" premiered on the streaming service, riding on a wave of stunned word of mouth and the strength of its daring social commentary and one-shot cinematography. Heart-wrenching and deeply thought-provoking, the series is far and away the favorite to win on the coattails of its own success, like similar British phenom "Baby Reindeer" just last year.
